AIMS OF THE SOCIETY

Interpreting the Aims, listed in the Home section of this website, is a continuing role of The Chapter (the management committee) of the Society, under its Knight President. Chapter comprises a certain number of Members, elected at Annual General Meetings to serve for the current year, together with other ex-officio appointees, who hold office for longer periods, such as the Knight President, Deputy Knight President or Knight Vice Presidents, Knight Remembrancer (the official Secretary), Knight Treasurer, Knight Chaplains (of more than one faith), Knight Steward, and Knight Almoner. These responsibilities and other roles are shared among the membership for the good order of The Society, with the members involved all volunteering their time and interest.

THE PERPETUATION OF THE NAME AND FAME OF ARTHUR, KING OF BRITAIN AND THE IDEALS FOR WHICH HE STOOD

K
ing Arthur is remembered and respected by the official Toast to Arthur, King of Britain, given by King Arthur’s Champion at all events of The Society. The Regalia and Robes of the Society are reminiscent of the chivalry of ancient times, but the ceremonial of the Society plays only a minor part at its gatherings. At our Legal Dinners, the Society’s Award winners from the Middle and Inner Temple, debate an Arthurian subject, which more often than not proves hilarious rather than historically informative.

THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PROMOTION OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT, CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND CAREERS

T
he Society asks many centres of professional learning to identify talented young people who are in need of financial support and encouragement as they enter their careers, and selects the strongest candidates to receive assistance from the Society’s Benevolent Fund. Currently the list of these Institutions includes The Royal College of Music, The Guildhall School of Music, The Arts Educational Trust, the City of London Arts School, The Royal School of Needlework,The Middle and the Inner Temple, The Scout Association, The Territorial Army, The Army and the Combined Cadet Forces, Christ’s Hospital School, and St. Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy. The Society also helped to fund two qualified therapists, through Voluntary Service Overseas, (VSO), in Sri Lanka, after the Tsunami and a third in Eritrea as a teacher in a remote village and it will continue to send volunteers on quests to countries in need of qualified guidance and leadership. The Society keeps in touch with its Volunteers and Award Winners to encourage them as they progress in their careers and in society.
